Agencies & Providers

Adoption Agencies and Fostering Service Providers are encouraged to download and print the IRM leaflets from this website to circulate to their social workers and panel members, to inform them about the IRM.

Prospective adopters or foster carers should be given information about the IRM at an early stage of the assessment process. For adoption disclosure cases they can be given at the time of applying to access adoption records.

Printed leaflets will be sent from the IRM office to applicants when they have made an application to the IRM.

All Adoption Agencies and Fostering Service Providers are required to appoint a Link Person to liaise with the IRM office when a case from their agency is being dealt with by the IRM. All correspondence on the case will then take place between IRM staff and the Link Person.

All the administration for the IRM Panels is dealt with by the IRM office.
Any queries can be directed to the IRM staff who will be happy to help. Any queries can be directed to the IRM staff who will be happy to help.

From 1 April 2010 the contribution to be made by agencies/providers whose qualifying determination is reviewed by the Independent Review Mechanism (IRM) will be £2,418. The balance of the cost of the review will continue to be met by The Department.
The current contribution of £2,227 has not altered since 2004, when the IRM for adoption was first introduced. The Department will inform adoption agencies and fostering service providers about any changes to the contribution for 2011/12 nearer the time.
